Verse First ~  Water Table

Welcome to Verse First, where simple notions prompt amazing poems.

Today’s notion?

WATER TABLE

Water Table

No you can’t see it

From here

But it’s there

Lying still

Deep rich

Resource

Waiting to be called on

When your throat feels dry

Unexpected

Refreshing

Yield

Cinnamon candy

Poppy fields

Prompt: beam, anchor, shift, close, heart, phrase,
range, connect, current, fertile, layers, yield

AFTER THE SHIFT
The open range
Atop the mesa
Dropped anchor
Grew root
Buried my heart
In less than fertile ground
Deep in layers of caliche
No harvest yield expected

The wind’s current
Scours the landscape
As my heart grew in the land
The land grew in me
Sunbeams shine
Most everyday
The phrase
“A sunny day is a happy day”
Becomes a question
As there is a close connection
Between drying and dying
All that lives needs water

Verse First ~ The Wild Truth

Journey to a Wild Truth

Truth that elusive thing

Hiding right in front of my face

Out of site

Hard to hold

Hard to know

It changes

Shifts

Won’t hold still

Is only for one’s self

Can never know for another

What is true

What is not

Often what is not true

Is the truest thing

I know

IMG_7529The Landscape of My Mind

Each day begins a new
The sun rises above the mountain
Promises delivered to a new world
Yet each day ends
Spectacular sunset
World in flame

Year’s end lies
In tangent with the
Beginning of the newyear
Endings and beginnings
The perfect pair
The work of the old year
Folded away
Neatly labeled
A completion of sorts
Or perhaps just a link in the chain

On winter’s night
The Rio Pueblo
The creek in the woods
Settles in for a winter’s nap
Blanketed with ice and snow
Reflects sparkle of stars
Named for ancestors

Wishes, hopes, and desires are kneaded
Into the bread of a newyear
Against adversity
The perfect loaf formed
The path will be strewn with missteps
No need to brood
The point of faith is fixed
POP! A new year is here

Note:  against, creek, ice, deliver, pop, point, tangent, flame, stars, knead, brood, strewn

As I looked closely at the photograph I had chosen for the piece, I realized it was taken several years ago.

The Little Tree
The little tree stands
Leafless in the corner
Of the courtyard
The village beyond

It is morning
The sky ablaze announcing
The sun

A white blanket of snow
Covers the ground
What sleeps beneath
Prepares for spring

I look closely
I realize
There is no tree
In that corner

The picture I see
Exists only in my mind’s eye

The tree was removed
After the furry kitty
Lost an eye
Because of the stickers

The little tree
A red plum
I will always see
Stand before the deep blue mountain
In memory of you

Sunday November 18, 2012 Sunday Whirl

Sun Rises above Taos Mountain

Silent Saturday Morning

Fire in the hearth

Stone cold

Time to repent

Say I’m sorry

For your loss

For my own

Or

Wrapped in pride

Fail to see the wrong

Unless I awake

Open my eyes

Life waits in hiding

Hard to find

The lost needle

In the hay stack

No belonging to the

Unbroken thread

Beauty surrounds

Sun rises

Over Taos Mountain

One intent or bust

Somethings of value

Cannot be pawned

Stolen, hoarded, or touched

Sunday Whirl  #81: wrath, tumultuous, scramble, flees, shore, key, swelling, upbeat, depths, enable, rotten charm

Sandy

Woman shrouded in blue

Waits upon the shore

Waves swelling before her

Her dreams swim in the depths

Salt water the key

The end

Final

Her life scrambled

Like yellow eggs upon a plate

Bright fall morning

Event tumultuous

Order flees

Nothing ever the same

Wrath takes over

No longer upbeat

It is her rotten charm

That has enabled her this far

Future uncertain

Note:  Sandy a storm that will long be remembered.  Effects of climate change comes to New York City, and surrounding east coast area.

Childhood of the Day

The first hour of light

The sun having cleared

Taos Mountain

A soft blue-grey

Deeper blue near the horizon

A pink band above

Like the inside of a shell

Washed ashore

Lonely

Forgotten

Standing in silence

Thunder forgotten

Vows given

No excuses

Quiet anticipation

Awaiting the shift

The day promised

Becoming

An umbrella of abstractions

Joined sunshine and shadows

360 degrees

An inheritance of inspiration
