February 15, 2011 A Broken Heart

The Broken Heart

The first tiny crack appeared

Quietly behind the door

My head snapped in the direction

I’m not sure of the cause

In the beginning it was so small

Could only be seen when held to the light

And even tracing your fingernail

Could not be felt

It was more like a small stone

In your shoe

Like a crack in the mirror

It distorted the image

A crack in the cup

Prevents it from holding the tea

A crack in the boat

No longer floats

A crack in the sidewalk

When stepped on

Will break your Mother’s back

Over time the crack grew larger

The surface was crazed

The burden too heavy to carry

I take a deep breath

Imagine the cracks fall away

In the light of the shining sun

My heart seems whole

*I began thinking about the heart… the heart of any human.  Can we remember the first break.  Did it happen one night, we were not aware… something happened somewhere else.  And over time through loss and disappointment, more cracks happened.  And I wanted to think about the cracks and what they do, “distort the image.”  But when all is said and done, we look out and the sun is shinning, everything is so beautiful… the cracks seem to fall away.  All is whole again.

January 7, 2012 Sunday Whirl/ Wordle #38

Sunday Whirl Wordle #38

My hands grope

Lost among thousands

Not forgotten

Yet to remember

Causes a shearing

Pain in my chest

You come to me

Slowly bubbling up

From the darkest hiding place

I watch

You breathing for the last time

In the little house

With the thatched roof

The fire in the hearth

A gate opened

Together on the thrshold

Your path new

I was left to rebuild

Still your love fluttering around me

In a flash

I discovered the stones

You had dropped

Marking the way home

You are Mother

December 22, 2011 Aubade

Aubade,  love song about the parting of lovers at dawn

What is it we love

Who can say

When we love everything

As far as the eye can see

Even to the far side of the world

And yet you chose to leave

That morning

In no way different than

Any other morning

And yet

Your leaving

Made that morning

The darkest ever

And so from that moment on

I search for you

I long for you

I remember your kiss

Against my will

I was forced to say

Goodbye that last time

December 9, 2011 dVerse MOTHER…mother

dVerse — prompt: Writing about feelings.

The words echo
MOTHER… mother
Where are you

One foot before the other
I walk alone
You have trained me
Shown me the path

I fold the soft cloth
And tuck it into
The bottom of the bag
Where are you

It rains again today
In the winter of our lives
Tomorrow the sun will shine
I have gathered all
Your words of wisdom

The living of life
Keeps every one busy
No time to really say
Hello, goodbye
Or what is on your
Mind or heart

So now I wonder alone
Your voice silent
MOTHER… mother…
Where are you
