March 4, 2013 No Escape/ dVerse #86

No Escape

The grey hangs heavy

As it shrouds the mountain

No sound or breath

A landscape suspended in amber

The storm is coming in

There is no escape

No open road

All is a locked door

No place to run

No place to hide

Finger nails scratch

Plead for way out

From

Fear

Sorrow

Debt

Love

Promises

Survival

Death

There is no escape

Winter in Taos

Grey day

Clouds like

Blanket spread

Fluffed

Caught in mid-air

Grey, lonely, silent

Without warning

Coyote appears

Just as suddenly

Disappears

Always on the move

Rain expected in the p.m.

Until then…a sense of waiting

Grey, lonely, silent

Caught in mid-air

Sunday Whirl #52

Still Life #54 ¬†24″x24″ ¬†gouache on oriental paper

The Rich Color of Grey
The habit
At a glance
Starched and stiff
No longer flexible
Appears black
Like the widow’s
Old knapsack

Hymns sung in
The key of grey
Sweet and low
In the early
Morning day
The light is low
Mostly grey

Grey a color
Richer still
Dramatic when
Combined with red
Forceful like a vixen
Playing tricks

A siren swims
In swirling flames
Push the energy
Up the mountain side
Exchange your breath
For a blend of peace

Close the lid
Lock down tight
Day is done
The light is low
Mostly grey

In the snow
