“A BUNDLE OF CONTRADICTIONS“
First, I say
I will
And then, I say
I won’t
Yes, sometimes
I am a bundle of contradictions
First, I think it is this way
Then, I think it is that
I say yes
And then I say no
Gathered into a bundle
Tied with a bow
Life is like that
So much is offered
We agree
…With careful consideration
Maybe not
What road to choose
The road least taken
Or the road
Worn and old
So many decisions
Never knowing
What is right
What is wrong

Your poem moved me to look up this Emerson quote; “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day.” Yes?
Perfect, thank you Susan. Annell Livingston

Oh gosh I love this! Life is filled with paths where our feelings prove to be contradictory.

We are a bundle of contradictions. So many decisions made, sometimes not even knowing we were making them!
Sherry I just read some stories about the whale and her dead baby. Oh how sad, or does it reflect our own grief, over the ten thousand things, that are beyond our control.

I specially love the road reference, least taken & worn and old. You’ve put it beautifully.
Thank you for the comment. Annell Livingston

Reminds me of Kierkegaard: ‘Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.’
I love your comment, I never though about it in that way. Your words are true. Annell Livingston

That’s so true..we don’t really know but still we move forward, wanting actually to never leave the place where we are.
Sometimes forward and sometimes back, a “life dance.” Thanks for your comment. Annell Livingston
