LAND OF THE FREE
Lady Liberty
Mother to us all
She speaks in these words
She asks for your tired
Your poor
Your huddled masses
Yearning to breathe free
My family came in 1858
From Ireland
Two brothers
Who were millers
Who became farmers
Raised cotton
In Trinity County, TX
She holds the lantern
Lights the way
We all came
Came from somewhere else
Who closes the door today
Who separates families
Takes small children
From Mothers and Fathers
It is hard to take pride
In what we have become

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc.”
So heartbreaking. This is a story of a moonless night. Hope day dawns with hope and love.

I like that you put yourself in here. I should, too. I should learn how Russians and Germans were welcomed between 1880 and 1920. There was certainly prejudice, but all of us became citizens.

Where has Hope gone? Beautiful words you weaved here. We hope to return to the true spirit of this great Lady. Lovely!
Thank you Vivian..but it seems hope has been hidden in hateful words, and deeds. ANNELL LIVINGSTON http://www.annelllivingston.com annell@taosnet.com 575-751-0680

My great grandma came from County Cork, fleeing the potato famine. We are kin! Smiles. I believe the America we know is still there, we are far more numerous than the villains that are dismantling everything as fast as they can. I just am astounded that no one – Congress? – is stopping it. Power means more to them than their country, clearly.

This a nicely written poem, with a message that gets sadder as we read along. The last lines tell it like it is, no holds,
“We all came
Came from somewhere else
Who closes the door today.”
We know who and we seem powerless to make changes. But then, somehow we are responsible for letting the tyrant and his supporters get the stranglehold.
Aside, we have a lot near Trinity adjacent to Westwood Shores. Also a nice house near Montgomery, in Bentwater that hasn’t sold. We now live near Katy, at Cinco Ranch.
And, my grands came from Isle of Man in the early 1800’s, from Germany in the mid 1800’s, and from England in the 1600’s.

Sadly the way the western nations have treated the rest of the world has resulted in this situation of unrest. Once dominating colonists and oppressors the subsequent reordering of the nations is still being interferred with, resulting in millions of people hoping to find safer and better paleces to live. We do have a responsibility thrust on us by our predecessors but are reluctant to do what is right.

They came all the way through many difficulties, their children wrested away from them at the border, a harrowing experience indeed! Worse! To be sent back to face gangs of hoodlums back in their home country in fact. A pity, MMT! Did well to highlight this!
