Blue Grows in my Garden
Blue is the color of my heart
Beaten, bruised, beating still
You bless me
And I ask you not
Your blessing becomes
A burden I have not asked for…
Who deserves the blessing
You offer
First in line
First in kindness
First in money
Number one…
Who deserves the blessing
You offer
I look in the mirror
I gasp
Where have all the flowers gone
The days
The hours
The minutes…
Who deserves the blessing
You offer
It seems to have happened
In an instant
Like the crisp sound of a slap
The snare is set in the dust
Without warning
Spread my wings
Ready to fly
I am caught in your trap
Unbalanced…
Who deserves the blessing
You offer
Who deserves to ride
truly one of your best…………
Beautiful, Annell. Good questions here….just who deserves???
interesting verse anell…are any of us truly deserving…or is that grace…it is interesting hte blessing unasked and how it affects us…the use of being trapped is intersting in this and makes one wonder at the response…
hummm…. I was thinking…when someone asks, has his hand out, and you drop something in, it is not for the blessing… a simple thank you would be enough. Now I must carry the blessing, I didn’t ask for….then I began to think of who is deserving….you never know where a write will take you. That is one reason I like it…. Yes, Annell, one of your best for certain. A wonderful write!
Yes..this is perhaps one of your poems that made me gasp in wonder..that little blue heart..i can imagine it trying to keep flying..
Fabulous. The repetition you employed works so, so well. Bravo.
I think we’re all a bit too used to getting things we don’t really deserve.
We often search for the strings attached to an unasked for blessing. We are strange creatures. And I agree with the others about this piece, Annell. It truly is one of your best, Brava!

A sad place to be. I really like this, especially:

Blue is the color of my heart as well. You have struck a chord, Annell.
