Each day begins a new
The sun rises above the mountain
Promises delivered to a new world
Yet each day ends
Spectacular sunset
World in flame
Year’s end lies
In tangent with the
Beginning of the newyear
Endings and beginnings
The perfect pair
The work of the old year
Folded away
Neatly labeled
A completion of sorts
Or perhaps just a link in the chain
On winter’s night
The Rio Pueblo
The creek in the woods
Settles in for a winter’s nap
Blanketed with ice and snow
Reflects sparkle of stars
Named for ancestors
Wishes, hopes, and desires are kneaded
Into the bread of a newyear
Against adversity
The perfect loaf formed
The path will be strewn with missteps
No need to brood
The point of faith is fixed
POP! A new year is here
Note: Â against, creek, ice, deliver, pop, point, tangent, flame, stars, knead, brood, strewn
As I looked closely at the photograph I had chosen for the piece, I realized it was taken several years ago.
The Little Tree
The little tree stands
Leafless in the corner
Of the courtyard
The village beyond
It is morning
The sky ablaze announcing
The sun
A white blanket of snow
Covers the ground
What sleeps beneath
Prepares for spring
I look closely
I realize
There is no tree
In that corner
The picture I see
Exists only in my mind’s eye
The tree was removed
After the furry kitty
Lost an eye
Because of the stickers
The little tree
A red plum
I will always see
Stand before the deep blue mountain
In memory of you
This is wonderful, Annell. The Wordle words are buried invisibly inside this poem. I love ‘wishes, hopes, and desires are kneaded into the bread of a newyear………” and yes, beginnings and endings are the perfect pair. You really cannot have one without the other. Happy New Year, Annell.
Thank you so much Mary. I found this one a bit difficult…had no idea where I might go…but of course this is the delight of the wordle! And a Happy, Happy for you! Annell Livingston HC 74 Box 21860 El Prado, NM 87529

I love this reflective piece, especially:
Wishes, hopes, and desires are kneaded
Into the bread of a newyear
Against adversity
The perfect loaf formed
… Happy New Year!

Annell,
Thank you for all of your visits. I have no explanation for comments – that are misdirected.
I actually for a year was employed as a baker…I did not like the ‘early rises’ at all. Generally I had to be in by 5am. That meant I had to go to bed by 8pm.
Each sun rise and sun set have their own stories. I like the stars reflecting their ancestral stories in the frozen ice of the creek. Our creek is too fast flowing to freeze. Perhaps just near the banks – sometimes.
Don’t care if the photo is an old one, it’s beautiful. And really like your poem and kneading the bread of the New Year, somehow that spoke to me of hope and positive thoughts of afection and caring. Hope your New Year is Blessed and Special my friend,
Elizabeth

I guess it was noticed in amazement…time passed like a silent mouse on tiptoe, and we look up surprised! When did this happen? I think it is because I live in “creative time,” most of the time, I know nothing of” minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.” Thanks for your kind comments and a Happy New Year to you as well. So good… I might have to check out a few old snaps myself!
And a very happy new year to you, too, Annell.
…a path strew with missteps… just thoughtful and lovely.

Gorgeous writing, Annell! I especially liked:
“The work of the old year
Folded away
Neatly labeled
A completion of sorts
Or perhaps just a link in the chain.”
I love running the words through my head. Such beautiful images.
Happy New Year to you!
Oh, this is wonderful!
I like the desires being ‘kneaded into the bread of a newyear’.
Lovely words for a lovely wintry picture. Such a good to end the year. A starry 2013, Annell, may your wishes come true.
I really forget about wishes…but may yours’ also come true! Thanks. Annell Livingston HC 74 Box 21860 El Prado, NM 87529

I rarely create from wordle challenges, Annell; so when I see one done well I am impressed. Yours is lovely, and the photo is even more so.
