Christmas in the Desert
So far…
Season is bland
Temperatures the
Same as late summer
Time stands still
Sense of waiting
Feelings forged into sameness
Time to rejuvenate
Awaken old souls
Without stress or loss
Innate sense of wonder
Delicate childhood
Endings in the air
Time for change
New space
New traditions
New paths
Along desert coastline
Don hat to protect
Against relentless sun
And other dangers
Memories run rampant
…And you say the “tests” are negative
Life’s full spectrum
Colors in all the spaces
…Snow expected
On Christmas
Sleigh bells ring!
Note:  As I was working on my piece, lost in reverie, I was contacted by a friend telling me, his partner has cancer, and the first tests were negative for it’s spread to the brain and that there would be more tests.  I wanted to add that line, as I think it illustrates “life,” while we are busy doing something, something else happens.  It all becomes woven together, into something unique.

  1. New traditions, new paths. I like those ideas. I do think, for me, it would be difficult to do Christmas in the desert. One definitely would have to forge a different mindset.

  2. However lost we can be in our imagination there is always the pull of reality..which can often be as relentless as constant sun..making snow in the desert..that is delight..and maybe we change a little everyday..happy Sunday to you..and best wishes for your friend.. x

  3. Thank goodness the tests are negative. Your desert sounds like the heat may be something I would enjoy right now. We have been dipping into sub zero temps this past couple of weeks, last two days have been a balmy 6 or 7o C above zero. Will you get snow there for Christmas?

    1. The weather has been warmer than I remember (global warming?) drought…but snow is predicted today, and several days before Christmas, I am hoping for a white Christmas. Usually the weather is very cold, as we are “high mountain desert,” but not this year. Annell Livingston HC 74 Box 21860 El Prado, NM 87529

  4. There is snow on the ground here, but you paint the desert beautiful, Annell. Well done. Good news on the negative tests, still…..not easy news to know cancer is there at all. Peace.

  5. Snow in the desert, what a delightful experience that must be, Annell. I am happy to hear your friend’s test was negative. Nicely wordled poem.

As for the snow, it is in the dashboard command. You have an option to turn it on. Go to settings and you should find it.

  6. test negative is a good thing…new paths and new traditions are cool as well, sometimes change is hard…..its been a very mild december here as well…i want snow so bad….smiles….real snow….
