Just a Boy
Driving the back roads
Of east Texas
I passed a boy
Walking on the road
Eyes black
Face swollen
My partner said
“He’s been beaten”
We did nothing
In silence
We traveled on
The image of this boy
Returns to me
Was there something I could have done
What happened to that boy
Who had suffered what
No boy should have
*Note: I was in a town I did not know. And really didn’t know what to do, but have always wished I could have done something?
Perhaps at times we can’t quite believe what we see..how can we..perhaps that you saw..remember him means something very special..Jae
Thank you Jae. I also posted one for Sunday Whirl it is before The Boy. Annell Livingston HC 74 Box 21860 El Prado, NM 87529

I suspect this haunts you a bit so you will know just what to do when you encounter the next boy…
What Jae and Kim say is interesting. Perhaps, in some way your writing about him is doing something.
Thanks Margo…perhaps we all have memories, of things passed, when we did or didn’t do something, that maybe we should have, ….or…. the other way around? Annell Livingston HC 74 Box 21860 El Prado, NM 87529

sometimes when we can’t get an image or a situation out of our heads, there is still some information for us there – maybe you will have a “next time” and know exactly what to do.
Beverly I’m still not sure…the summation of the situation may not have been correct? But his image stays with me. Perhaps I see myself as Superwoman, who can “fix” all things? Now we know that’s not right.
