Golden Sunset

A Stone: One Daily Observation.

Gold enough for a queen

Gold enough to share

___________

dVerse Poets Pub:  Prompt poem inspired by Giorgio de Chirico

Mystery and Melancholy

In a hot and dusty

Spanish town

Sitting quietly in the shade

The wind cools the hot afternoon

Guitar music floats out

Through the open door

Pink, white and red

Hollyhocks move gently

To the music

They long to pull up their

Roots and dance the Flameco

Click their heels

Hold up their ruffled skirts

That fall from their bodies

I look up and they have

Reclaimed their place in the garden

A single airplane

Slices the blue over head

Its’ muffled sound

Spills into the valley

To lay down in silence

  1. In regard to today’s stone, yes indeed…each observation IS gold, a real treasure for the one observing and the one with whom it is shared!

  2. lovely take onthe prompt…the flowers dancing is a cool image for sure…and the lone airplanes noise settling it all into silence…i like this a lot..smiles.

  3. You took this to Spain, and why not? Music wafting in, a distant airplane, and then silence – the painting encourages a variety of moods. reading your poem reminded me of how some of Brian Eno’s music feels to me (in particular Before and After Science) ; there’s a paradoxical feeling of both sound and silence simultaneously.

  4. I’ve been a docent at our art museum for a number of years and one of the things we try to do is to get people/children to learn to really look at art instead of just breezing by. As I read this I said to myself, “She really looked at this!” Bravo.

  5. Your take on the prompt caught me off guard as i found myself transported to a time and place i did not associate with the image…and I loved it…you are a natural storyteller as evidenced by the ability to take the reader out of the present moment and into your moment..I was there! wonderful write..

  6. I am visiting again in response to your poem written for dVerse. I like what you saw in the painting and all the senses you pulled into your poem. I was especially impressed with the ‘sounds’ you gleaned from the painting.

  7. You bring the crazy flower dance of a fantasy garden into a deserted cityscape and reconcile all the shadows and odd light with the far, separate world of an airplane cabin, so even in the lushness, the loneliness of that one childish figure remains. Enjoyed it much, annell.

  8. Yes, the hollyhocks and the airplane won me over, too. Gorgeous verse, Annell. And your “stone” is glorious.
    Thank you.
